Peyote

Peyote is a small, spineless cactus whose main active ingredient is mescaline. It has a long history of use in American Indian culture as an aid to healing and spiritual practices. It is known for the potency of its hallucinogenic capacity.  It can also be synthetically produced. Disc-shaped buttons cut from the top of the peyote plant are typically chewed or soaked in water that produces an intoxicating liquid. They can also be dried and ground up to make a powder that can be swallowed or smoked with marijuana or tobacco.  It is rare to find pure mescaline on the streets. Peyote is considered a Scheduled I controlled substance by the DEA.
